Wednesday 5-14-14

Wednesday 5-14-14

Not too much to write about today. We got up and got ready. Ayla like normal had a hard time leaving in the morning because she will miss me too much for the hour we are apart. Silly girl! We introduced our new word recognition sheets to all the classes. It is so much fun to hear the kids say some of these words. Mom insisted on words like “debonair” being in there. Why these kids need to know a word like debonair, I have no idea, but it was still fun to hear them say it.

We came home at lunch time and I was getting a very bad dizzy spell. It happens sometimes, so I wasn’t worried about it. I tried to eat some food and drank extra water, but decided to stay home for the last part of the school day. I spent my time studying my Swahili. I made some flashcards and I think I am finally getting the hang of some of it.

Even though I was feeling dizzy, I made the kids glazed carrots and hotdog sandwiches. Jove ate his pretty quickly, but Ayla is being difficult. Either way today has been a very simple easy day and it is almost at its end. Oh and I even will get a nice hot shower today. We have gas once again and working ground water for the bathtub. I can’t wait.

So Hannah and Chris came by and asked if we could go for a walk with them and show them around. So we all walked up into the village to check things out. When we got up there we saw Stan of “I Love Stan” was in so we went in to tell him to have Samweli come back to school tomorrow since Asa and I would be sponsoring him. He agreed. We did make a deal with him that he must repair all the kids uniforms for free as our requirement in taking over his portion of the tuition. He agreed to this as well, so I am very glad. Now Samweli can come back to school, we need our daffy boy, and the rest of the kids will once again look smart. We had to turn around on our walk when we reached the farm. It was beginning to get dark and there are no lights here in the village and it would be difficult to find our way home. As it was, Ayla fell and hurt her knee on some rocks pretty bad, but no blood.

Once back home, I got the kids in the shower, and unfortunately the hot water for the shower is not working as hoped. So the kids had to take a cold shower since I had no water boiled for a bath. I was so looking forward to a nice hot shower instead of sitting in that tiny tote. Oh well, hamna shida. I boiled up some water for a bath for me later, but more so that I could have a nice cup of chai with milk and sugar. As I drank my chai I read the kids the next Ramona book “Ramona the Brave”. As I hoped Ayla loves these books. I read her the first two chapters. She wanted more, but Jove had fallen asleep and I didn’t want to disturb him, so to bed with the kids it was. I came out of the room and Mamaliz was working on making a smoothie, but had too much in the magic bullet to blend easily. I pulled out the bigger carafe for her. She dumped the stuff in there and turned it on. Well she forgot to screw the bottom on so there was smoothie everywhere. We got it all cleaned up, but it really was quite funny.

Oh and Hannah decided she couldn’t handle it at the hospital and so we are going to have her helping in the afternoons at the school. The more the merrier. We should be able to have her help one or two specific kids that are falling behind, but try and want to learn.
