Sunday 6-8-14

Sunday 6-8-14
I woke up because the kids wouldn’t let me sleep anymore, even though it wasn’t even 7:30 yet. I had told them we could go to  Bismillah for chipati today. So that is what we did. I told them I just hoped that they would behave today so I didn’t end up regretting doing something like that for them. We came back to the house and I got all of us set up. Jove had just chipati, Ayla had hers with honey and Nutella (the Nutella requested was just so she could have a spoon full of Nutella), and I had lots of peanut butter, banana, and coffee of course.
As I sat drinking my coffee I got to listen to a pig being slaughtered instead of church singing. Why is it that I get the peaceful church singing most days, but Sunday comes around and I get pig screaming? It was a rough sound to listen to, but I had enough distraction with working on the midterms, chatting with Asa, and the pain from falling yesterday. My knee is doing a little better. The swelling has gone down even though the colors have become more vibrant in the bruise. My shoulder on the other hand is another story. It turns out I must have messed something up pretty bad in my left shoulder when I tried to catch myself while falling. It hurts so bad. Luckily I have some muscle relaxers and some pain meds, but even taking those hasn’t made the pain fully go away. It kind of scares me how much it hurts.
The kids played hide and seek in the house because it was too cold outside this morning. After a little while they got bored of that and decided to build a fort in our bedroom.  Jove found a gold screw and got so excited. Of course he then started to pretend to scratch my phone and all kinds of stuff with the screw. What a little butt!
Samweli came over and played with the kids. It was mostly playing games on their tablets, but they did a very good job sharing with Samweli. I was still chatting on and off with Asa when he let me know that it was lunch time. The day had slipped past and I didn’t realize. So, I got up and made some parmesan rice to go with the beans and hotdogs left over from last night. I invited Samweli to stay for lunch, some juice, and to watch “Shrek” with us.
Some village kids showed up to swing, so I asked Samweli if he could come out with me to translate for me so I could tell them that only St. Mary’s kids were allowed here again because of the issues we have been having with their behavior. He came out with me but looked weird. I asked him if he was okay and he spit some rice into his hand and said he was vomiting. After a few more questions I got him to say he didn’t like it. I gave him a little hug and let him know it was okay and that he didn’t have to eat it. We then went to tell the kids they had to go. We both felt bad, but it had to be done. The other day Samweli told Teacher Logan that many of the village kids were talking about how he didn’t have a brain because he gave them a chance to stay and play. Samweli said they thought it was funny that he thought they would change.
We went back inside and Samweli had his lunch of juice, Jove decided he wasn’t hungry so he didn’t eat either, and Ayla ate a decent amount of her lunch, but still not all which wasn’t much to begin with. My kids don’t have much of an excuse, it tasted pretty good. But Samweli, there were just too many new flavors in there. He had asked what a hot dog was, and he had never had parmesan either.

Logan came by and I offered him some of the left over lunch. He was grateful and ate it up pretty fast. It made me feel a little better about the effort of cooking the rice and reheating the beans and hotdogs. He brought his ukulele and the kids wanted to see it, so we listened to while he played. He even let the kids take a few turns. They really enjoyed trying to play on their own. Jove farted and it was so bad that Logan forgot how to play the song he was in the middle of. That gave me a pretty good laugh.
Farida showed up with a bunch of kids. It turns out that they had found a few of the village kids that stole some toys. They hadn’t brought the toys so I had Farida tell them to go get the toys and bring them right now. They did, and the toys weren’t stolen from our house, they were stolen from the preschool. That surprised me because I can only assume that the preschool kids helped them steal them then. But I will return the toys to the chekechea one teachers tomorrow. I had Farida do the translating and tell the group of kids that came that it could only be St. Mary’s students allowed once again. There was one of Ayla’s best friends Pili there and she doesn’t go to the school. We tried to make an exception for her and one other that has always been on her best behavior here. No matter how many times I had Farida tell them that the rest would need to go, they just didn’t seem to get it. But when Logan went to go play volleyball, many of them left to go watch him play. A few moments after they left I looked out the window and saw that Joan was still here at the swing along with the two girls that were allowed to stay, but there were about ten others that weren’t supposed to be here. Joan was swinging with herself and two others on the swing. She knows better because she can understand me and we have told our school kids many times only one at a time otherwise the rope will break. I went outside and confronted her. I ended up having every single one of them leave for the night. I was just done for the day of kids not listening to me. My own, the school kids, and the village kids, they were all driving me nuts with the lack of listening.

I got the kids cleaned up and made them Nutella oatmeal for dinner. Jove ate his, but Ayla decided she didn’t want to eat. I had them go to bed early. I was just done. Once they were in bed, I went into the office to try to find the driver for the printer. All I could hear outside was a woman scream bloody murder. I think someone might have died tonight or something. It was loud. The kids have enough of a hard time falling asleep, and it has been a rough day with them, hence why they went to bed a little early. I really hope it doesn’t make them falling asleep worse. I have a feeling that sounds uncaring, but I guess this place is starting to rub me a little bit the wrong way today. It will be to bed with me soon.
